Registration for the sixth annual Branch Out Dallas tree giveaway program is now open. Dallas residents considering replacing their damaged or aging trees or adding a new tree to their yard can register online for a free five-gallon tree at the Branch Out Dallas website from September 3 to September 30, or while supplies last. This year, the program expects to distribute over 2,500 free trees.
Branch Out Dallas supports citywide initiatives that increase the overall tree canopy. Trees reduce the amount of stormwater runoff to drainage systems, help cool temperatures, improve air quality and mitigate the heat island effect. The program has been well received by the community.
Dallas residents that register for the program can choose from five tree types selected for their hardiness and regional suitability including chinquapin oak, cedar elm, redbud, Mexican oak and lacebark elm. Those who register may pick up their free tree on Dallas Arbor Day, Saturday, November 2, from 9 a.m. to noon at seven locations throughout the city. Tree delivery is not available, and the trees must be picked up on November 2 during event hours. For additional program details, visit Branch Out Dallas.
